Neglect of the Quran and the Sunnah result in serious damage to our faith and to our day to day activities. Lack of knowledge of the practices, such as, belief in Wahda-tul-Wujood, Wahda-tush-Shuhood, Hulul, (to merge in Allah), Tasavvur-e-Sheikh (contemplation of the spiritual teacher), obedience to the sheikh, spiritual stations of saints, the knowledge concerning the apparent and the latent meaning of things, to believe in rewards dispensed by dead saints and ancestors, and to pray for their intercession, to summon the spirits of the dead, to take help from them, and the claim of the knowledgeof the un-seen. Some of the other false practices are conducting Fatiha, Qul and recitation of the Quran in congregation, performing Urs (the death anniversary of saints), celebration of the birth day of the Prophet (s), or saints and listening Sama, i.e., Qawwali (which is claimed to have spiritual benefits). All such non-islamic practices are popular among people who have no knowledge of the Quran and Hadith. Holding firmly to the teachings of the Book and the Sunnah is the only sure way to keep oneself safe and away, from such false beliefs and practices.
The Mutazela set introduced the corrupt belief that Quran is a creature of Allah In the year 218 Hejira when the Caliph, Mamoon-ur- Rasheed tried to get approval of his concept from the Ulama (learned men of his realm). Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal opposed this corrupt belief and stood like a rock. He was imprisoned and tortured, and after each flogging he was questioned whether or not the Quran was a creature of Allah . even in the face of severe punishment, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal would only say: Bring me its proof from the Book or the Sunnah and only when would I admit to what you say. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) declared: I am leaving behind such a thing that as long as you hold fast to it you would not go astray; it is the Book (the Quran) and my Sunnah. No amount of counseling to the prudent in his reply could budge the Imam from sticking to the above advice of the Messenger of Allah (SAW.). The Imams conduct in this trial saved the entire Umma from the evil of that pernicious doctrine about the Quran. In this age when false beliefs and evil practices are spreading like wild fire, the only way to keep ourselves safe is to base our beliefs and conduct on the firm foundation of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (SAW). Further we should work ceaselessly in spreading their message.
